Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU/Stepdown

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join a 40-bed PCU/Stepdown unit. The average daily census is approximately 36 patients, with a diverse patient population including adults and geriatrics experiencing various medical conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the PCU, including telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation.
  • Manage non-titratable cardiac drips and perform essential patient assessments.
  • Respond effectively to code situations as a recorder and timekeeper.
  • Administer and monitor the peritoneal dialysis process, utilizing the Amia PD System.
  • Document patient care accurately using the Cerner iVIEW charting system.

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with the potential for 1:5 based on patient acuity.
  • If floated to a non-telemetry Med-Surg unit, the ratio may be 1:6.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of PCU/Stepdown or Med-Surg/Telemetry experience required.
  • Strong EKG interpretation skills and experience managing non-titratable cardiac drips.
  • Experience with chest tube management and CVA care.
  • Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale required.
  • Completion of 4 hours of annual stroke continuing education is required.

Weekend and Time Off Requirements

  • Every other weekend availability is required.
  • No time off is permitted during critical holidays and hard-to-fill days.
  • Requests for time off of 14 days or less will be auto-approved.

Floating Requirements

Candidates should be prepared to float to non-telemetry Med-Surg units based on facility needs.

Scrub Color and Equipment

  • Scrub color is navy blue; scrubs will be provided.
  • Specialized equipment includes portable telemetry monitoring.

Work Schedule

This position requires 3 night shifts of 12 hours each, from 19:00 to 07:30.
