Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Telemetry Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years Med/Tele RN experience required License: Required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS preferred Must-Have: 6 months EPIC experience required Description: RN - MedSurg/Tele position available. Facility has 637 licensed beds and a Level 1 Trauma designation. It is a teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The MedSurg unit consists of 20-36 beds. Common patient diagnoses include acute or chronic diseases, diabetes, hypertension, and infections. Experience with cardiac patients, post-surgical care, and co-morbidities is required. Patient ratios are 1:4-6 for RNs and LPNs, and up to 1:14 for CNAs. BLS certification is required, and ACLS certification is preferred. Travelers will be required to pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding. Certification in MedSurg is a plus. Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, IV maintenance, and strong assessment skills. Telemetry skills include monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms and managing post-cath care. Knowledge of pediatric drips is required, with the ability to titrate drips for heart rate only. Support personnel will assist with vital signs, glucose checks, and patient safety. The department has dedicated resource nurses for discharge planning and floating support to all units. The facility operates RT and hospitalist services 24/7. Central telemetry monitoring is available, and an IV team assists with PICC lines. Technology includes an EMR system, IV pumps, and vital sign monitors. Travelers may be required to float to various Med/Tele units and the ED as needed. Unit culture is busy and team-oriented.
