Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Tele RN experience required License: Required license for RN practice Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred; Basic Cardiac Rhythm certification required Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills Description: The role involves caring for patients with acute or chronic medical conditions. Common diagnoses include heart failure, A-Fib, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes. Responsibilities include post-op monitoring and managing patients after cardiac procedures. The patient population may present with co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances. Patient ratios will be RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, with 2-3 CNAs per shift. Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and the management of insulin and heparin drips. Candidates must be proficient in IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and foley care. Telemetry monitoring and interpretation skills are also essential. The role requires care coordination with an interdisciplinary team, as well as discharge planning and patient education. CNA duties will include assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, and ambulating patients. There are resource nurses available for discharge management and support. A telemetry monitoring unit is present for continuous patient monitoring. All adult med-surg/telemetry units may require floating staff. Weekend rotations consist of 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 in a 6-week schedule. Holiday expectations include working one shift of each major holiday. Requests for time off will require management approval. Scrub color for RNs is navy and for LPNs is ceil blue. The work environment is busy but emphasizes teamwork.
