Join a leading acute-care hospital as a MedSurg/Telemetry RN in Macon, GA. This contract position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you can make a difference in patient care. Our facility is a Level 1 trauma center and a teaching hospital, recognized for its Chest Pain and Stroke Centers.

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 16
  • Average Census: 16 patients

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Chest pain, syncope/vomiting, abdominal pain, cellulitis, COPD exacerbation, heart failure observation, dehydration, hypertension, diabetes, POD#1 requiring hospital stay overnight, simple trauma, MVC, fall.

Patient Ratios: RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, CNA: 1-2 per shift.

Requirements:

  • RN License (associate’s degree at a minimum)
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required
  • BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) – test completed during onboarding
  • Minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience
  • Strong clinical assessment and time management skills
  • IV insertion and maintenance skills
  • Cardiac monitoring and interpretation
  • Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
  • Discharge planning knowledge and patient education

Support within the Department:

  • CNA: assists with VS, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting in turning patients, hourly rounding, transporting patients as needed.
  • Unit secretary on unit 7a-11p; then house-wide call secretary 11p-7a.
  • Charge nurse – may or may not have patient assignment.
  • RT 24/7, Hospitalist 24/7, Intensivist 24/7.
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech: Central Telemetry Unit.

Technology/Equipment: EMR: EPIC, IV Pump: Alaris, Med dispensing: Pyxis, Monitors: Phillips, VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, portable vital signs monitors (Dynamapp), bladder scanners, PCA pain management.

Scheduling:

  • Weekend rotation: 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 (on a 6-week schedule).
  • Holiday Expectations: work one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after + 12/24 or 12/25 + 12/31 or 1/1).
  • Shift times: 12-hour shifts 7A-7P or 7P-7A.
  • Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks.

  • Scrub Color: RN- Navy; LPN- Ceil Blue.
