Description:
The position involves providing nursing care in a MedSurg/Telemetry unit.
Each MedSurg unit has 20-36 beds.
Candidates should have experience with patients who have acute or chronic diseases.
Common co-morbidities include diabetes, hypertension, infections, and electrolyte imbalances.
The role includes monitoring and caring for cardiac patients, post-cath, and post-surgical patients.
Patient ratios are RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, and CNA: up to 1:14.
Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, IV maintenance, and strong assessment skills.
Knowledge of care coordination with an interdisciplinary team and discharge planning is essential.
Candidates should be able to interpret cardiac rhythms and manage post-cath care.
Experience with drips such as insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine is required.
The ability to titrate drips for heart rate but not for blood pressure is necessary.
Support within the department includes CNAs for vitals, blood glucose checks, and patient safety.
Resource nurses and discharge nurses are available for additional support.
The environment is busy and team-oriented.
Travelers may be required to float to all MedSurg/Telemetry units and the emergency department as needed.
Knowledge in using EPIC, IV pumps, and medication dispensing systems is preferred.
