Join a leading acute-care hospital as an RN in the MedSurg/Telemetry unit in Macon, GA. This facility is a Level 1 trauma center and a teaching hospital, recognized for its Chest Pain and Stroke Centers. We are seeking dedicated RNs with a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele experience to provide high-quality patient care in a busy, team-oriented environment.

Unit Information:

  • Each Med Surg unit has 20-36 beds.
  • Patient Ratios: RN: 1:4-6; LPN: 1:4-6; CNA: up to 1:14.

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Inpatient Med Surg/Telemetry patients with acute or chronic diseases.
  • Common co-morbidities include diabetes, hypertension, infections, and electrolyte imbalances.
  • Cardiac patients: post-cath, CHF, a-fib.
  • Post-surgical patients: General, Ortho, Trauma.

Required Qualifications:

  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
  • Traveler must pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding.
  • Certification in Med Surg is a plus.
  • 6 months of EPIC experience required.

Skills Required:

  • Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander.
  • Strong assessment and time management skills, care coordination with interdisciplinary team, discharge planning knowledge, patient education.
  • Telemetry skills: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, post-cath management.
  • Drip management: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, nicardipine.

Support within the Department:

  • CNA assistance with vitals, blood glucose checks, baths, and patient safety.
  • Unit Secretary available from 7a-11p; house-wide call secretary from 11p-7a.
  • Charge nurse may or may not have patients.
  • Resource Nurse available for discharge and support.
  • RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist available 24/7.

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC.
  • IV Pump: Alaris; Med dispensing: Pyxis; Monitors: Phillips.

Orientation:

  • 1 day orientation with educational modules.
  • 2 days departmental orientation.

Additional Notes:

  • Scrub Color: RN - Navy; LPN - Ceil Blue.
  • Free parking available around campus.
  • Unit culture is busy and team-oriented.
