Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 (7a-7p) Experience: Minimum 2 years Med/Tele RN experience License: Valid Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred; National certification in Medical-Surgical preferred Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for Level 1 Trauma Client Trach care and chest tube management IV insertion and care, central line management Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation Description: The RN position in a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit is responsible for caring for patients with acute or chronic diseases and post-operative surgeries. Common patient co-morbidities include diabetes, hypertension, infections, heart failure, and electrolyte imbalances. Patient to RN ratio is typically 1:4-6. Assistive personnel such as CNAs will be available to support various tasks. Required skills include management of insulin and heparin drips, as well as strong wound care and post-operative monitoring capabilities. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams for care coordination and discharge planning is essential. Basic Cardiac Rhythm certification is required, with an EKG competency exam as part of compliance. The work environment is busy, and teamwork is emphasized to ensure efficient patient care. Additional support services include 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist services. Technology used includes an EMR system, vital sign monitors, and telemetry monitoring equipment. Flexibility to float to other adult med-surg/telemetry units as needed.
