Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Tele RN experience required License: BLS required Certifications: ACLS preferred, National certification in Medical-Surgical nursing or Nephrology nursing preferred Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Client. Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucomander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips to titrate heart rate (but not blood pressure). IV insertion and care, central line management. Wound care and post-operative monitoring. Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation. Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams. Discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management. Description: This is a nursing position in a MedSurg/Tele setting. The facility has a designated trauma level and is a teaching hospital. The unit has 35 beds, with an average census of 35. Patients may include those with orthopedic and trauma cases, head trauma, and post-operative needs, along with common co-morbidities such as diabetes and hypertension. Patient ratios are typically 1 RN to 4-6 patients and 1 LPN to 4-6 patients. Certified nursing assistants assist with vital signs, glucose checks, personal care, and patient mobility. There is a unit secretary available for administrative tasks during the day shift. Resources such as discharge nurses and a telemetry monitoring team are available around the clock. Equipment includes EPIC EMR, IV pumps, and various monitors and vital sign devices. Nurses may float to all adult MedSurg/Telemetry units in-house. Clientists and intensivists are available 24/7 for support. Weekend shifts typically require working 5-6 weekends in a 6-week schedule. One major holiday shift is expected each year. Requests for time off must be approved by management. Scrub color for RNs is navy blue. Unit culture is fast-paced, requiring teamwork among staff.
