Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Tele RN for a 12-hour night shift contract requiring NC or compact RN licensure and cardiac telemetry experience.

Details

  • Work in a 207-licensed-bed hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
  • No trauma designation and not a teaching hospital
  • Home unit assigned on first day of orientation, selected from Med/Tele units including ADTU, Ortho Surgical, Medical Telemetry, Surgical Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, and Medical units
  • Patient populations include CHF, COPD, chest pain workup, stroke, respiratory issues, post-surgical orthopedic, renal, GI, and behavioral health cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6 (up to 1:7-8 during critical surge)
  • CNA to patient ratio of 1:6-12
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Floating required to all units within scope at Mercy and to other facilities within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mtn, Lincoln, Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) as needed

Requirements

  • Active RN license, NC or compact, required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months core work experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • General Med/Tele skillset required including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, foley insertion/management, and PCA pump use
  • Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Ortho experience and spinal precautions knowledge required for 7N/S Ortho Surgical unit
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across a variety of medical and surgical telemetry units supporting inpatient and ED overflow needs
  • Support staff includes CNAs, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, and intensivist coverage
  • No dedicated telemetry monitoring tech support
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 RTO days may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract end date
  • Schedule operates on a 6-week cycle
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking provided
  • Manager conducts final clinical interview
  • Traveler's permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the home unit; local candidates not accepted
  • Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working in a permanent position
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
