Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring NC or compact RN licensure and 2 years of Med/Tele experience

Details

  • Work in the ADTU and satellite med-surg/tele units, including 6CD, 3K, 5A, 3L, and 1T
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, falls, MVC injuries, PE, DVT, UTI, pneumothorax, GI bleeds, and CVA
  • RN to patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7-8 on 6CD
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week, on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within assigned region and scope of practice, potentially to multiple facilities including CMC Mercy and Levine Children's Hospital
  • EMR: Epic
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • No dedicated tele tech; primary nurse responsible for telemetry monitoring and interpretation each shift

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or compact) required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Stroke experience and cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
  • Experience with trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
  • Experience with PCA pumps and medication drip management (cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IVF)
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within one year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 of SSN and full DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Work in a Level I Trauma, teaching hospital setting with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
  • Strong support team including CNAs, unit secretary, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurses, RT, hospitalists, and intensivists all available 24/7
  • Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • RTO of up to 6 days off may be approved, excluding holidays; time must be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Free parking available
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
