Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical Oncology

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Medical Surgical Oncology unit. This role involves delivering exceptional nursing care to patients with a variety of oncology conditions in a supportive, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including chemotherapy, IV therapy, and blood products.
• Monitor patient vital signs and recognize changes, reporting abnormalities as necessary.
• Provide care and management for patients with central lines and ports.
• Educate patients and families on health maintenance and disease management.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including IV teams, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services.
• Participate in pain management strategies and psychosocial care.
• Assist in post-surgical care and management of chemotherapy-related side effects.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records within the charting system.

Qualifications:

• Active Registered Nurse License.
• A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is preferred.
• Previous experience in oncology or medical-surgical nursing is preferred.
• Certifications including BLS, ACLS, and ONS/ONCC Chemo/Bio preferred.
• Experience with charting systems, preferably Cerner.

Preferred Skills:

• IV Therapy and Infusion administration.
• Management of central lines and ports.
• Understanding of oncologic emergencies and symptom management strategies.
• Ability to recognize and respond to abnormal lab values.

Work Settings:

• Inpatient oncology unit with 12 beds.
• Daily census approximately 10 patients.
• Team support from various healthcare disciplines including phlebotomy and rapid response teams.

Shift Details:

• Night shift: 4x12 hours (19:00 - 07:00).
• Every other weekend coverage required.
• Patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:5-6.

Orientation and Professional Development:

• Orientation will consist of 12 hours to acclimate new hires to workflows and protocols.
