Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg Telemetry

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with expertise in Med/Surg and Telemetry to join our team. This role involves providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on telemetry monitoring and management of various medical conditions.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry nursing.
  • Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring.
  • Experience with bowel obstruction, colostomy/ileostomy care, and feeding tube management.
  • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management for patients with renal failure.
  • Knowledge of blood product administration and central/peripheral line care.
  • Proficient in phlebotomy and IV management, including starting and maintaining IVs.
  • Experience with high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), non-invasive airway management, and oxygen administration.
  • Ability to follow isolation precautions and proper PPE usage.
  • Wound care experience, including Wound Vac functions.

Certifications

  • Current BLS certification.
  • NIHSS certification.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
  • ACLS certification is an asset.
  • Telemetry monitoring experience on the unit.
  • Experience with postoperative care for cardiac and bariatric patients.
  • Knowledge in managing continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) and CVA care.
  • Experience with electronic documentation systems.
  • Community hospital experience is a plus.

Job Details

  • Patient-nurse ratio: 1:6
  • Shift: Nights, 18:45 - 07:15
  • Contract duration: 13-26 weeks accepted.
  • Maximum RTO: 7 days
  • No call requirement.
  • Float requirement: May be required to float to other locations as necessary.
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.

Additional Information

Contract staff will be assigned to work during emergency situations, including storm teams or disaster relief efforts. Candidates should be flexible and prepared to assist during major events.

Patient Diagnoses

Potential patient cases may include, but are not limited to:

  • Diabetes
  • Dementia
  • COPD
  • COVID-19
  • Pneumonia
  • Sepsis
  • Gastrointestinal bleed
  • Renal failure
  • Various surgical recovery cases

Unit Systems

Medications are managed through Pyxis systems, with documentation and communication conducted electronically.

Orientation

Unit orientation is 24 hours, allowing for seamless integration into the team.

Attire

Scrubs should be navy blue or white.
