Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team on the Medical Surgical unit. The ideal candidate will have experience in medical/surgical nursing and the ability to adapt to a dynamic patient care environment. This position requires flexibility, including working holidays and potentially caring for COVID patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with general medical/surgical diagnoses.
• Administer medications and treatments as per physician orders.
• Monitor and document patient progress and responses to treatment.
• Participate in a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and respond to catastrophic events or mass casualty situations as needed.
• Attend unit team meetings which occur monthly.

Shifts and Scheduling

Shifts will be scheduled for 12-hour nights from 18:45 to 07:15. Travelers are expected to work every other weekend and may also be scheduled for holidays. A maximum of 7 days' request time off (RTO) is allowed for AYA auto offers.

Required Skills and Credentials

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a medical/surgical or similar setting.
• EPIC experience is required.
• BCLS certification is required.
• Willingness to float to similar units and alternate care locations as needed.

Preferred Skills and Credentials

• Experience with CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention).
• Charge nurse experience is preferred.

Patient Care and Treatment

The unit handles a daily census of approximately 43 patients and is equipped to manage cases involving:

• Heparin drips
• Wound vac dressing changes
• High flow oxygen therapy
• Limited BiPap with respiratory support (no additional training required)

Orientation and Training

Unit orientation will last 24 hours, and scrub uniforms (navy) must be provided by the staff.

Additional Information

All travelers and staff are expected to participate in unit meetings, which are scheduled for the 4th Wednesday of each month from January through October, and the 3rd Wednesday in November and December. Additional meetings for night staff will be on the Friday following the Wednesday meetings.
