Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience; BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: The facility is licensed for 457 beds. It is a Level 3 Trauma and Stroke Center of Excellence. The facility also has a Bariatric Center of Excellence and a Chest Pain Center. Average patient census is 51 patients per day. Patient types include those with chronic diseases, CHF, mental health, addiction services, COPD, DM, wounds, and geriatric care. The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:4-6, and can increase to 1:7-8 during surge times. A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) ratio is 1:7. General skills required include cardiac rhythm interpretation and experience with non-titrating cardiac drips such as Cardizem and Amiodarone. Candidates should be proficient in caring for patients with tubes and drains, IV starts, blood products, and wound care. Support within the department includes a Nurse Manager, Clinical Supervisors, staff RNs, CNA, Clinical Mentor, Rapid Response RN, and House Supervisor. The department uses an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Equipment includes scales, transfer devices, vein finders, EKG machines, and telemedicine carts. Travel nurses will float to other nursing units and provide staffing support based on patient care needs. Floating may occur within the regional facilities as needed and within the scope of practice. Travelers are expected to work every other weekend. Holidays will require travelers to work 75% of the time. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays, and will require adjustment of the contract if missed hours occur. Teamwork and accountability are core aspects of the department culture.
