Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to provide quality patient care in a dynamic healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of recent experience in a medical surgical setting, preferably in a larger hospital or level 2 trauma center.

Key Responsibilities

• Care for medical surgical and surgical oncology patients.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Utilize nursing expertise and apply age-specific standards in clinical practice.
• Demonstrate competency in the use of various healthcare technologies and equipment.
• Participate in unit training and orientation programs, including hands-on shifts with preceptors.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience in a medical surgical unit.
• Active RN license in North Dakota or a compact state.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Experience in surgical oncology is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with EMR systems, specifically EPIC.

Shift Information

This position requires 12-hour shifts with every other weekend and holiday. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 5:1 during day shifts and 6:1 during night shifts. Flexibility to float to other medical surgical units as needed is expected.

Unit Overview

The medical surgical unit consists of 47 beds, providing care to a diverse patient population. Nurses in this unit will become proficient with various technical equipment such as AccuDose, bladder scanners, Phillips monitors, and telemetry systems.

Training and Orientation

New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation program consisting of one day of lead center training followed by two 12-hour shifts on the unit with a preceptor to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
