Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical

Job Description

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses for a Medical Surgical unit. Ideal candidates will possess a comprehensive skill set and the ability to provide high-quality care to diverse patient populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize telemetry for remote monitoring and manage patients with complex medical conditions.
  • Interpret dysrhythmias and implement IV insulin protocols as necessary.
  • Provide colostomy and feeding tube care and management.
  • Administer blood products and perform central line blood draws.
  • Oversee peripheral line care, management, and phlebotomy tasks.
  • Start IVs and manage PICC lines.
  • Manage high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), CPAP/BiPAP, and non-invasive airway support.
  • Execute isolation precautions and provide wound care, including the use of wound vacs.
  • Ensure adherence to patient care protocols and contribute to team-based practices.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Medical Surgical setting.
  • First-time travelers are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated experience with patient care tasks and management of condition-related protocols.
  • BCLS certification is mandatory.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with telemetry, including unit monitoring and management of dysrhythmias.
  • Familiarity with accessing ports, insulin management, and surgical drains.
  • Ability to interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and manage tracheostomy cases.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system.

Contract Details

  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts.
  • Work schedule will be based on unit needs; candidates should be flexible.
  • Required weekend shifts, ranging from 12 to 16 per contract period.
  • Contract duration: 13-26 weeks.
  • Orientation: 24 hours for unit and comprehensive hospital orientation in the first week.
  • Floating to other units may be required based on staffing needs.

Patient Diagnoses

Patients may present with a variety of conditions including dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, gastrointestinal bleeding, anemia, and hip fractures.

Additional Notes

Registered Nurses may be expected to be part of a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and should be prepared to report for duty during significant events or emergencies. All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
