Registered Nurse – IMC/PCU/Stepdown (Open Heart Progressive Care)

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | 3x12 or 4x12 shifts | Weekdays with every other weekend required | 36- or 48-hour contract options available
Key Responsibilities
- Provide progressive care nursing for post-operative open heart and cardiothoracic surgical patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring in a 29-bed unit
- Maintain a 4:1 patient ratio, delivering high-acuity care in a fast-paced stepdown environment
- Assist with, manage, and facilitate removal of chest tubes; provide care involving central lines and wound vacs
- Operate and monitor external and internal pacemakers as required by patient condition
- Accept med/surg overflow patients as census demands
- Float within scope of practice to meet facility needs as directed
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Active WV RN license or Compact license required; pending license accepted for submission
- BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) required
- Chest tube insertion assistance, management, and removal experience required
- Central line experience required; external/internal pacemaker and wound vac experience required
- COVID-19 vaccination required; medical/religious exemptions considered on a case-by-case basis
- Must have a permanent address greater than 100 miles from the facility; candidates between 75–100 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in an open heart or cardiothoracic progressive care or stepdown setting
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic health records charting system
- Experience accommodating flexible scheduling including blocked schedule arrangements
