Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Join our dedicated nursing team at Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Alaska, as a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse. This role is integral to providing comprehensive patient care across the lifespan, with a specialized focus on obstetric patients, newborns, and postpartum mothers.
As an L&D RN, you will apply the full nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient outcomes. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team to deliver exceptional care in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver patient care through the comprehensive application of the nursing process (assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation).
- Direct and coordinate nursing care for patients based on established nursing practice standards.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Serve as a clinical resource person when situations require specialized knowledge or guidance.
- Provide age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care to patients ranging from birth to elderly.
- Administer treatments and medications accurately and safely.
- Interpret diagnostic tests and integrate findings into patient care plans.
- Provide comprehensive education to patients, families, and significant others regarding care and recovery.
- Maintain flexibility in work schedule and demonstrate independent action within the prescribed limits of nursing practice.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an NLN-approved institution.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience in Obstetrics (OB).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Current Fetal Monitoring certification.
- Ability to pass and maintain competencies required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- National Certification in Obstetrics.
Skills & Competencies
- Clinical Skills: Proficient application of the nursing process, patient assessment, medication administration, treatment delivery, diagnostic test interpretation, patient/family education, care management, adherence to AWHONN standards, operation of Fetal Monitors and Datascope.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and standard office equipment (computer, telephone).
- Soft Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively, flexibility, cultural sensitivity, independent judgment within scope of practice.
- Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, Alaska State Registered Nursing practice standards, care management, and continuity of care.
