Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Obstetrics Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Alaska. This role is integral to delivering high-quality patient care across the lifespan, with a specialized focus on obstetric patients and their families.
The successful candidate will be responsible for applying the full nursing process—assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide comprehensive care. This includes directing and coordinating nursing activities, collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes while upholding the organization's mission and nursing practice standards.
This position requires a compassionate professional capable of managing care for patients from birth through the elderly, with a specific emphasis on the unique needs of obstetric patients, incorporating age-specific considerations and cultural diversity into practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive patient care utilizing the nursing process: assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Direct and coordinate nursing care for patients in accordance with established nursing practice standards.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality, cost-effective, and efficient care, achieving the best possible patient outcomes.
- Administer medications, treatments, and interpret diagnostic tests accurately.
- Provide thorough patient, family, and significant other education regarding care plans and health management.
- Serve as a clinical resource person, providing expert guidance when situations require.
- Apply age-specific considerations and cultural diversity principles when rendering patient care.
- Demonstrate flexibility with work schedules and exercise independent action within prescribed limits of practice.
- Provide collaborative oversight and support to unit secretaries and OB Technicians, in conjunction with the Charge Nurse.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an NLN-approved institution.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of recent Obstetric (OB) nursing experience.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to practice nursing as described in the Alaska State statutes regarding Registered Nursing.
- Knowledge of AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) standards.
- Cognitive and technical knowledge required to manage care across the continuum.
- Ability to effectively utilize the nursing process in patient care provision.
- Proficiency in basic mathematical skills relevant to nursing practice (e.g., dosage calculations, rates).
- Strong reasoning and problem-solving abilities to interpret various instructions and deal with concrete variables.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- National Certification in Obstetrics.
