The facility is a Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center. Daily average patients range from 100-160. Patient demographics include neonates to geriatric individuals with 5%-8% pediatric cases. Common patient presentations include chest pain, dizziness, syncope, strokes, sepsis, orthopedic issues, respiratory distress/failure, STEMI, and COVID. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4 during both day and night shifts. Support is available from a receptionist and healthcare unit coordinator 24/7. Charge nurses will take a patient assignment as required and cover low-acuity patients. Phlebotomy assistance is available for peripheral blood draws. Telemetry monitoring is performed both at the bedside and at the nurses' station. Floating may occur based on facility needs, but the nurse will not take patient assignments in these cases. Traveling nurses will float first. Weekend rotations are required every other weekend. Holiday expectations include working one holiday. Time off requests must be approved by the nurse manager or supervisor. Shift times are from 1900 to 0700. The schedule operates on a 6-week cycle with 1-2 weeks of notice provided in advance. Scrub colors must be professional and avoid camo, denim, or hoodies.
