Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 14 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2-5 years of nursing experience; must have 1 year of Emergency Department experience within the past year License: Active RN License required Certifications: Required - BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS; TNCC preferred Must-Have: General Emergency Department skills Strong IV skills Cardiac rhythm interpretation/monitoring Foley placement/management NGT placement/management Knowledgeable in STEMI, CVA, and Sepsis treatments Medication titration Description: This is a Level IV Trauma Center with a Level III NICU. The average number of patients per day is between 100 to 160. Patient types range from neonates to geriatrics, with 5%-8% being pediatrics. Common presenting conditions include chest pain, dizziness, strokes, sepsis, respiratory distress/failure, and COVID. Patient ratios are RN 1:3-4 for days and 1:3-4 for nights. There are 2-4 ED Techs per shift, with 1 Tech available during the 0300-0700 time frame. Required certifications include BLS for ED Techs. Strong phlebotomy skills are required for ED Techs, along with splinting, performing EKGs, and assisting with specimen collection. Receptionists and a Charge Nurse are available 24/7, with support from an ED Educator during weekdays. A Resource Nurse is designated as a flow nurse during peak hours. Telemetry monitoring is performed at both the bedside and nurses’ station. Travelers may float based on facility needs, performing tasks such as helping hands and sitters without a patient assignment. A six-week scheduling cycle is in place, with schedules provided 1-2 weeks in advance. Weekend rotation is required every other weekend, with one holiday expectation during the duration. Scrub colors should be professional, and certain clothing items are not permitted.
