Clinical Nurse

Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

Education

• Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self.
• Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
• Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population, with assistance.
• Assesses the readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers.
• Evaluates the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.

Evaluation of Care

• Identifies expected patient outcomes.
• Seeks guidance as needed in revising the plan of care.
• Engages in discussions with interdisciplinary team members regarding the evaluation of patient care.
• Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.

Implementation

• Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
• Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required for the patient care plan.
• Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
• Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs.
• Consults with appropriate resources regarding complex care issues and high-risk discharge planning in a timely manner.

Leadership

• With assistance, develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations.
• Achieves goals and objectives within the identified time frame or renegotiates with a supervisor.
• Facilitates intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
• Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
• Effectively utilizes communication systems.

Planning

• Collaborates with the patient and family to prepare or update the plan of care.
• Utilizes available multidisciplinary resources in care planning.

• Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.

Research

• Reads journals containing studies or articles that may be relevant to practice.
• Brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

• One (1) year of nursing experience.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in a physician office, urgent care, or emergency department is preferred.

Education

• Required Education: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred Education: BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.

Certifications & Licensure

• Required: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the
