Clinical Nurse
Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the role involves coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process within a hospital setting.
Essential Duties
- Education:
- Identifies and meets personal learning needs.
- Attends educational programs based on identified learning needs.
- Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
- Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Evaluates developmental levels of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes.
- Seeks guidance as needed in revising the plan of care.
- Participates in discussions with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care.
- Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
- Implementation:
- Displays competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including all aspects of care.
- Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required by the patient care plan.
- Follows healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures during care delivery.
- Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs.
- Consults with appropriate resources timely for complex care issues and discharge planning.
- Leadership:
- Assists in developing goals for professional growth and addressing limitations.
- Achieves goals and objectives within the identified timeframe or renegotiates with a supervisor.
- Engages in activities promoting intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Effectively utilizes communication systems.
- Provides feedback to coworkers and promotes cost-effective care.
- Is knowledgeable about public policy and regulatory guidelines impacting the healthcare environment.
- Ensures a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.
- Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
- Incorporates physical, psychosocial, education, and safety needs into assessments.
- Synthesizes assessment data meaningfully before communication to others.
- Assesses and anticipates discharge needs for individual patients and families.
- Builds relationships with families to empower them to advocate for their needs.
- Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
- Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
- Communicates planning details effectively.
- Addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
- Prioritizes tasks for patients with complex problems.
- Research:
- Reviews relevant journals for studies or articles applicable to practice.
- Brings ideas and questions to staff for evaluation of applicability.
