Job Summary
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Essential Duties
- Education:
- Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self.
- Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
- Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
- Assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers.
- Considers the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes.
- Seeks guidance as needed in revision of the plan of care.
- Participates in discussions with members of the interdisciplinary team regarding patient care evaluation.
- Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
- Implementation:
- Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex issues, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
- Performs bedside point of care testing as necessary for the patient care plan.
- Adheres to healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
- Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs.
- Consults with appropriate resources promptly regarding challenging care needs or discharge planning concerns.
- Leadership:
- Develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations with assistance.
- Aims to achieve identified goals within set time frames or renegotiates with supervisor as necessary.
- Engages in activities that facilitate collaboration within and between departments.
- Contributes to unit goals and performance improvement initiatives.
- Effectively utilizes communication systems.
- Participates in promoting cost-effective healthcare.
- Provides constructive feedback to colleagues.
- Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines impacting the healthcare environment.
- Advocates for a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.
- Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes and analyzes data to determine care priorities.
- Includes relevant physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
- Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful communication to others.
- Anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
- Builds relationships with families that empower them to advocate for their needs.
- Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to develop or update the care plan.
- Utilizes available multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
- Employs effective communication strategies to convey planning information.
- Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex issues.
- Research:
- Engages with professional literature to stay current with practices.
- Shares ideas and questions with colleagues for collective evaluation.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
Education
- Required Education:
- Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Preferred Education:
- BSN or MSN from an accredited School of Nursing.
