Travel Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) – Telemetry/IMC Contract in Hagerstown, Maryland

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Float Expectations: Float between medical-surgical and IMC units, with assignments that may include observation, trauma surgery, joint, stroke, palliative, renal, women's, bariatric surgery, emergency department inpatient, and post-ICU units
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:4–1:6
• Weekend Coverage: Weekend and holiday shifts are expected; approximately 12 weekend shifts during the contract
• Orientation: 16 hours, plus required learning modules

Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Maryland
• At least 2 years of recent telemetry nursing experience in an acute-care setting
• At least 2 years of prior IMC, PCU, stepdown, or intermediate-care experience in a hospital setting
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Recent Epic electronic health record experience required and must be clearly documented
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Strong cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
• Experience caring for patients with acute respiratory distress, septic shock, hypertensive crisis, congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, unstable angina, DKA, trauma, and post-STEMI needs
• Proficiency with cardiac and insulin infusions, including monitoring and titration as appropriate
• Experience with ventilator and tracheostomy care, peritoneal dialysis, blood transfusions, TPN, feeding tubes, chest tubes, drains, PICC lines, and central lines
• Flu vaccination, COVID-19 vaccination, and a two-step PPD are required
• Must be comfortable floating across all medical-surgical and IMC specialties
• Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are not eligible

Travel RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care for adult and geriatric patients in cardiac stepdown, IMC, telemetry, and medical-surgical environments
• Float among assigned units while adapting quickly to differing patient populations, workflows, and acuity levels
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms, recognize dysrhythmias, and escalate changes in patient condition
• Care for patients requiring cardiac drips, insulin drips, noninvasive ventilation, high-flow oxygen, tracheostomy management, and complex oxygen therapy
• Manage pre- and post-cardiac catheterization care, including TR Band management, post-MI care, and post-cardiac surgery monitoring
• Administer medications, blood products, TPN, enteral feedings, and other therapies according to established protocols
• Perform or support care involving chest tubes, PleurX drains, NG tubes, PICC and central lines, lumbar and neurologic drains, PCA/PCEA devices, and wound care systems
• Assess patients with neurologic, respiratory, renal, surgical, orthopedic, trauma, and cardiovascular conditions
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in Epic
• Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation, IV services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other members of the care team
• Respond appropriately to changes in condition and participate in rapid response and emergency interventions
