Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Charlotte, NC

Join a high-acuity cardiac stepdown and neuro intermediate care team as a Travel Registered Nurse in Charlotte, North Carolina. This 13-week RN travel contract offers experienced nurses the opportunity to care for adult and geriatric patients while using advanced telemetry, critical care, and neurological nursing skills in a collaborative hospital environment. Charlotte, known as the Queen City, offers vibrant dining, professional sports, cultural attractions, green spaces, and easy access to outdoor recreation.

Travel RN Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,710–$1,800

  • Healthcare Setting: Neuro intermediate care / cardiac stepdown unit
  • Start Date: October 26, 2026
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks
  • Nursing Schedule: Four 12-hour night shifts per week, 6:45 p.m. – 7:15 a.m.; scheduling based on unit needs
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum of three weekend shifts every six weeks
  • Call Requirement: None
  • Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients with neurological and medical intermediate-care needs
  • Unit Capacity: Up to 24 patients
  • Orientation: 32 hours, including computer training and unit-based orientation
  • Electronic Medical Record: Epic
  • Float Requirement: Other intermediate-care and critical-care/stepdown areas as needed

Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

  • At least 2 years of recent registered nursing experience in neuro stepdown, PCU, DOU, IMC, cardiac stepdown, or telemetry
  • Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted
  • Active North Carolina RN license or compact RN license; pending licensure may be considered for submission
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Previous Epic charting experience required
  • Successful completion of specialty EKG testing before the start date
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, provide continuous telemetry monitoring, and respond to rapid response or code situations
  • Experience titrating norepinephrine, cardiac drips, vasoactive medications, and insulin infusions
  • Strong neurological nursing experience preferred, including care for patients with aneurysms, craniotomies, CVA, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, post-TPA needs, neurosurgical recovery, seizures, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries
  • Ability to provide safe, collaborative patient care and consistently follow attendance, call-off, and unit policies
  • Additional certifications such as CCRN, TNCC, and CPI, as well as charge nurse experience, are preferred

Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients requiring neurological and medical intermediate-level monitoring
  • Perform focused and comprehensive nursing assessments, identify changes in patient condition, and escalate concerns promptly
  • Interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias, initiate appropriate interventions, and utilize rapid response or code teams when indicated
  • Safely administer and titrate heparin, insulin, cardiac, vasoactive, and thrombolytic therapies according to protocol
  • Manage central lines, PICCs, peripheral IVs, ports, blood products, feeding tubes, surgical drains, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and continuous bladder irrigation
  • Provide respiratory support, including oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, ventilated-patient care, and noninvasive airway management
  • Care for patients before and after neurosurgery, hemodialysis, procedures, and other complex interventions
  • Complete neurological assessments for patients with intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, seizure disorders, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries
  • Document accurately in Epic and communicate patient information effectively using SBAR
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacy, rehabilitation, IV teams, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary healthcare partners
  • Float to comparable intermediate-care or critical-care areas when required while maintaining a professional, team-oriented approach
