Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro Stepdown / Cardiac Stepdown Night Shift in Charlotte, NC
Join a high-acuity neuro stepdown and cardiac intermediate-care team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This travel nursing contract is ideal for an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) skilled in telemetry, neurological assessments, vasoactive medication titration, and rapid clinical response. Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,710–$1,800
- Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- Contract Duration: Approximately 19 weeks, ending March 8, 2027
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour nights, 6:45 p.m. – 7:15 a.m.
- Unit: Neuro intermediate care / stepdown
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients with neurological and medical intermediate-care needs
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:3–4
- Unit Capacity: Up to 24 patients
- Call: None
- Weekend Requirement: Minimum of 3 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
- Floating: May float to nearby intermediate-care and critical-care areas based on unit needs
- Orientation: 32 hours, including classroom education and unit-based orientation
- Charting: Epic
Travel RN Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or a compact state; pending license may be considered for submission
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute-care nursing experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted
- Recent experience in neuro stepdown, PCU, DOU, IMC, stepdown, or telemetry required
- Strong neurological assessment experience, including care for patients with aneurysms, craniotomy, CVA, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, post-TPA needs, neurosurgical conditions, seizures, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and substance withdrawal
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, use telemetry monitoring, and respond with rapid response or code teams
- Demonstrated ability to safely titrate Levophed, cardiac drips, vasoactive drips, and insulin infusions
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Epic charting experience required
- Must successfully complete specialty EKG testing before the start of the assignment
- Strong teamwork, communication, reliability, and adherence to attendance expectations
- Flu vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions may be considered
- Preferred: CCRN, TNCC, CPI, charge nurse experience, intracranial pressure monitoring, conscious sedation, port management, and phlebotomy experience
Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care for patients requiring intermediate neurological and medical monitoring
- Perform comprehensive neurological assessments and promptly identify changes in patient condition
- Monitor and interpret telemetry, recognize dysrhythmias, and initiate appropriate emergency responses
- Manage vasoactive, cardiac, heparin, thrombolytic, PCA, and insulin infusion protocols within scope of practice
- Care for patients with ventilatory and respiratory support needs, including BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomies, chest tubes, and non-invasive airway management
- Provide pre- and post-operative care for neurosurgical patients, including those with craniotomies, lumbar drains, aneurysm repairs, and intracranial bleeding
- Administer blood products and manage central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, feeding tubes, surgical drains, and continuous bladder irrigation
- Support patients receiving pre- and post-hemodialysis care and other complex treatments
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation, radiology, rapid response teams, IV services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
- Use Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR communication tools to document care and support effective handoffs
- Float professionally to designated intermediate or critical-care areas and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment
