Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Neuro ICU RN with a compact or Ohio state license and previous travel nursing experience for a day/night rotating shift assignment.

Details

  • Work in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit of a teaching hospital environment
  • 36 hours per week on a day/night shift rotation with every other weekend required
  • Day shift 7:00-19:30 and night shift 19:30-7:30, 3x12 hour shifts
  • Weekend shifts considered Friday and Saturday nights
  • Rotation schedule updates every 4 weeks based on unit needs
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Utilizes Epic EMR
  • Performs IV starts, telemetry monitoring, ventilator management, and intracranial pressure monitoring

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Ohio state or Compact) required in hand at time of consideration
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA certifications only)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience with strong Neuro ICU background required
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Skilled in arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula, and ETT/NT suctioning
  • Proficient in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and administering continuous IV sedation
  • Experience managing CVA/acute stroke, EVD, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, and post-craniotomy/neurosurgery patients
  • Skilled in cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation, management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable for the second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to neurologically complex ICU patients including stroke, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury cases
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing their contract due to strict compliance timelines
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same pay rate
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible for travel assignments
  • Requested time off must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • First-time travelers require screening prior to consideration
