Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical unit position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 1-2 years of med/surg experience and a MO or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Medical Surgical unit of a Short Term Acute Care hospital
  • Care for acute care patients with diagnoses including infection, renal, cardiac, pulmonary, oncology, ortho, bariatric, pre-transplant, observation, psychology, long stay, and COVID
  • Patient ratio of 1:4-5 for all shifts
  • High patient turnover with short unit stays, sometimes only a few hours to a day
  • Uses Alaris pumps, CPAPs, BiPAPs, bladder scanners, lifts, Hover mats, EKGs, and scales
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 7:00 to 19:30
  • Can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Will float within service line to meet facility needs
  • Epic charting system used

Requirements

  • Active RN license (MO or compact) required
  • Pending license accepted
  • Current certifications: ACLS and BLS required, CPI preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience preferred
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, port access/management, blood product administration, and PICC line management
  • Respiratory care skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management, and tracheostomy care
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and telemetry

Additional Information

  • Care for a wide variety of patient conditions transferred from the ED, requiring adaptability and additional specialized training
  • Navy scrub color required
  • No local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius
  • Standard travelers may stay up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
  • Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
  • No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Travelers must have facial hair that allows for proper respirator fit testing or will be expected to shave
