Job Summary:
The Medical Surgical Floor (MS) registered nurse position is located in an acute care hospital setting. This role involves providing high-quality nursing care to adult patients with a variety of diagnoses, including urology and nephrology conditions, kidney transplants, and surgical procedures. The position requires a dedicated professional capable of working within a fast-paced environment and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Night shifts, 3x12 hours (1845-0715), minimum 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Active Illinois registered nurse license; BLS certification; minimum 2 years of experience in medical/surgical nursing; experience with telemetry and emergency response teams; knowledge of genitourinary/renal case management including hemodialysis; proficiency in IV therapy, medication administration including Heparin, and respiratory care such as CPAP/BiPAP; familiarity with isolation precautions and wound care; Cerner electronic charting system experience
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in trauma level I or level II settings, community hospital experience, and prior travel nursing experience
  • Open to accommodating block schedule: Yes, but not guaranteed
  • Float: Will float within scope to other Medical Surgical units as needed
  • Weekend REQ: Will work every other weekend
  • Additional Information: The unit discharges and admits a significant patient volume daily, with a typical census of 23 patients on a 25-bed unit. Patients primarily have diagnoses related to urology/nephrology, kidney transplant, and common medical surgical conditions such as UTI, pneumonia, and cellulitis. Procedures involve continuous bladder irrigation, urinary catheter management, and post-operative kidney transplant care. Equipment includes central and peripheral IV lines, urinary catheters, chest tubes, JP drains, nephrostomy tubes, and ileal conduits. Travel compliance and licensure requirements must be met prior to submission.
  • Certifications: BLS, active IL RN license, AHA or Red Cross certifications (RQI cards not accepted)
  • Other: Must have or be in process of obtaining Illinois license; RTO restrictions ideally no more than 5 days; no on-call requirement; orientation includes 32 hours of virtual training before start date.
