Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 18+ months of recent telemetry experience and a TX or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg Tele unit (25 beds) in a rural hospital setting
• Patient ratios of 5-6:1
• Common diagnoses include CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, CKD, and med/surg telemetry cases
• Patients on CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy
• RNs titrate Heparin drips and must be able to read telemetry strips
• Tele monitor techs assist with patient monitoring
• PCTs on unit at a 12:1 ratio
• Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and Nurse Educators available for support
• Charting currently done in Paragon, transitioning to Epic in late October 2026
• 12-hour day shifts with scheduling determined by facility management
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to all Med/Surg units and possibly to PCU for tele holds prior to transfer

Requirements

• Active TX or compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• 18+ months of recent Med/Surg Tele experience required
• Strong communication and time management skills required
• Rural hospital experience preferred
• BSN not required
• Must be able to read telemetry strips
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

• Provide direct patient care in a busy Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a rural, traveler-reliant facility
• Department orientation includes two shadow/orientation shifts
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Facility cannot accommodate block scheduling and schedules travelers based on facility needs
• Candidates should be strong team players comfortable working with evolving staff and limited continuity
• First-time travelers may be considered
