Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift acute care position requiring 18+ months of recent Med/Tele experience and a TX or compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care Med/Surg Telemetry unit (25 beds) in a rural hospital setting
  • Patient ratios of 5-6:1 with common diagnoses including CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, and CKD
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts, every other weekend required
  • Charting via Paragon system, transitioning to Epic in late October 2026
  • RNs responsible for reading telemetry strips while tele monitor techs observe patients
  • PCTs present on the unit at a 12:1 ratio
  • Heparin drip titration required
  • Respiratory equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow
  • Float requirement to all Med/Surg units and possibly PCU for tele holds prior to transfer
  • Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and Nurse Educators available for support
  • Block scheduling cannot be accommodated; schedule set based on facility needs

Requirements

  • Active TX or Compact RN license required
  • BLS (AHA) certification required
  • Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience required
  • Strong communication and time management skills required
  • Rural hospital experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a community-focused rural hospital
  • Department orientation includes two shadow/orientation shifts
  • Navy blue scrub color required
  • Holiday coverage required
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
  • Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
