Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for night shift with 2+ years of experience and NC or compact RN licensure required.

Details

• Med/Surg Tele unit in a hospital setting
• Patient ratios of approximately 1:5-6
• Patient population includes dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture cases
• Isolation area maintained for COVID patients
• Multi-level care unit that includes stepdown patients cared for by dedicated stepdown staff
• Uses Pyxis and Epic systems with SBAR communication
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15)
• 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules accepted
• 13-26 week contracts accepted
• Floating required within or near the facility
• Weekend requirement of 12-16 shifts per contract
• May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Skills required include Med/Surg and telemetry remote monitoring, use of Rapid Response Team, interpretation of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, starting IVs, heparin protocols, PCA, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia management, port access, insulin management, CVA care, surgical drain management, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending OK at submission)

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a Med/Surg Tele unit including cardiac monitoring and emergency response
• Weekly hospital orientation with daily class attendance required
• Unit orientation is 24 hours
• Navy/white scrub color requirement
• Pre-start and annual online training modules required, approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Previous Charge RN experience preferred
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose employment history for facility approval
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units, disclosed, and with independent transportation
