Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring 2+ years of experience and an active NC or compact license.

Details

  • Med/Surg Telemetry unit caring for patients with dysrhythmias requiring remote and on-unit telemetry monitoring
  • Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, failure to thrive, and various surgical recovery cases
  • Patient ratio of 1:6
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
  • 36 or 48 hour shifts accepted
  • 13-26 week contracts accepted
  • Every other weekend required
  • No call requirement
  • Floating required to main campus (NHRMC), approximately 32 minutes away
  • Uses Pyxis for medication management
  • Self-scheduling type

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact)
  • BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line and PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Experience with bowel obstruction, ostomy care, and feeding tube management
  • Respiratory care skills including BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, chest tube, and tracheostomy management preferred
  • Experience with renal failure and hemodialysis management
  • Medication administration experience with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Wound care and isolation precaution/PPE experience required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for a Med/Surg Telemetry population including cardiac, renal, respiratory, and post-surgical patients
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours
  • Navy blue or white scrubs required
  • May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
  • Mid-contract reassignment to a centralized office or different unit may occur as needed
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • RTO limited to 7 days maximum per contract, with no RTO during the first week of assignment
  • No block schedules accepted unless a weekend block (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
  • Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units with separate transportation
