Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a Level 2 trauma acute care unit requiring at least 1 year of acute care nursing experience and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care Med Surg/Tele unit specializing in Ortho/Uro/Neuro, Level 2 trauma center
  • 29-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
  • Patient population includes ortho trauma, vascular, urology, neuro-spine, and OBGYN oncology cases, with occasional acute medical admissions
  • RNs titrate drips including heparin and occasionally nitro, bivalirudin, cardizem, and insulin following a prescribed nomogram
  • Telemetry techs monitor strips 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own strips
  • Charge nurse on all shifts takes an assignment, with house supervisor coverage on all shifts
  • Nursing assistants present on all shifts with varying ratios depending on time of day
  • Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BIPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy with RT support; no ventilators on unit
  • 12-hour day shifts from 0700-1930, with scheduling on a block basis as staffing allows
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend
  • Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Cerner EMR used, currently transitioning to EPIC

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
  • Current BLS (AHA) certification required
  • Minimum 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience required
  • Two current professional references required: one from a supervisor and one from a peer or supervisor

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across ortho, vascular, urology, neuro-spine, and oncology specialties
  • Unit orientation includes 1 day of computer training plus 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation
  • Every other holiday coverage required
  • Scrubs of any color permitted, maintaining a clean and professional appearance
  • All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
  • Candidates must disclose any prior employment with the facility; former staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
  • Local candidates within 80 miles may be considered at a reduced rate
  • First-time travelers may be considered for this position
