Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Tele Oncology position requiring an active OH or compact RN license and a minimum of 2 years of current Med Surg/Tele nursing experience.

• Oncology unit within a specialized cancer hospital and research setting
• Cares for adult and geriatric patients diagnosed with endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers
• Unit specializes in chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and CBI treatments
• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls management
• 16-week assignment with a 12-hour rotating day/night shift schedule (3x12)
• Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs
• Staffing ratios target 1:4 but may be adjusted to 1:5 based on unit needs
• Weekend requirements are variable based on unit needs
• No set or blocked scheduling requests accommodated
• Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of current Med Surg/Tele nursing experience, consistently worked within the last 12 months and in the specialty applied for
• Current BLS certification required
• Epic charting system experience required
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and emergency response required
• Skills in administration and monitoring of chemotherapy required
• Experience with PCA medications, surgical drains, and tracheostomy care/management required
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to adult and geriatric oncology patients, ensuring physical and emotional well-being
• Administer chemotherapy treatments and monitor patients for adverse reactions
• Participate in clinical trials, assisting with data collection and documentation
• Perform specialized procedures such as brachytherapy and neobladder care
• Perform feeding tube care and management, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line maintenance
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and utilize rapid response teams as needed
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued for this role
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Locals are accepted at the same rate
• RTO must be submitted with the initial application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Former employees eligible for a travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
