Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology Telemetry unit requiring 2 years of current acute care experience and an OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work on a Medical/Surgical Oncology Telemetry unit caring for all solid tumor cancer patients across the continuum of care, from new diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life transition
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatric patients with diagnoses such as breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancers, as well as patients receiving antineoplastic chemotherapy
  • Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, but may be as high as 1:5
  • Weekend rotation varies based on unit needs with no set or blocked scheduling
  • Floating required to other MedSurg Oncology units
  • 3x12-hour Day shifts (7:00 AM-7:30 PM) or Night shifts (7:00 PM-7:30 AM) available
  • 16-week assignment length
  • Uses Epic for computerized charting

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Current BLS certification required
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience required, consistently working in the specialty within the last 12 months
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skills required include telemetry interpretation and monitoring, IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, central line blood draws, isolation precautions/PPE, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Preferred skills include accessing/managing ports, administration of chemotherapy, blood product administration, and tracheostomy care/management
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership role; charge RN acceptable as second reference; coworker references not accepted

  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Provides med surg nursing care with true med surg issues in an oncology setting
  • Candidates should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous travel experience is preferred but not required
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
  • RTO must be requested and built into the contract at time of consideration, limited to 7 days or less
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate
  • Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed urgently upon signing contract; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
