Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a comprehensive cancer hospital, requiring 2+ years of high-acuity oncology or med/surg tele experience and travel RN experience.

Details

• Comprehensive Cancer Center with 318 acute care beds, all inpatient units totaling 36 beds specialized by cancer diagnosis
• Floating required to MedSurg and PCU Oncology units including BMT, Acute Leukemia, Hematology, Medical Oncology, PCU Oncology, Gynecological Oncology, Urology, Colorectal, Surgical Oncology, and Corrections Healthcare
• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
• Contract length of 16 weeks
• Staffing ratios are PCU 1:3 (up to 1:4 with mixed acuity) and Med/Surg Tele ideally 1:4 (up to 1:5)
• Weekend requirements vary based on unit needs
• 12-hour day/night rotating contract available with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing priorities
• No set or blocked scheduling offered
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of current, high-acuity Med Surg Tele or higher experience required within the last 12 months in the specialty applying
• Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• OCN and ONS/ONCC certifications preferred
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Travel RN experience required
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and telemetry monitoring
• Skilled in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, oxygen administration, and tracheostomy care
• Experience with heparin protocols and PCA management
• 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to oncology and med/surg telemetry patients across a specialized cancer hospital setting
• First week of orientation is Monday-Friday day shift, followed by five bedside orientation shifts between weeks 2 and 3, then independent practice
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Former employees eligible for travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible to be hired as travelers
• RTO must be submitted with contract request and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements urgently upon signing contract due to strict compliance deadlines
• Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must drive to an Ohio fingerprinting location as soon as possible after booking; those at extreme distances will be mailed a fingerprinting packet to complete urgently
