Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN - Med/Surg Tele for an oncology unit requiring telemetry skills and a valid OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Hospital-based Medical/Surgical Oncology and Telemetry unit
  • Cares for adult and geriatric patients with all subtypes of solid tumor cancers including breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancer
  • Supports patients receiving antineoplastic chemotherapy across the cancer care continuum, from new diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life transition
  • Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, with up to 1:5 based on unit needs
  • Day shift (3x12, 7:00-19:30) or night shift (3x12, 19:00-7:30) available
  • Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
  • No set or blocked scheduling offered
  • Floating required to other Medsurg Oncology units
  • Uses Epic for computerized charting

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS certification required
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience in the specialty, with consistent work in the last 12 months
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skilled in telemetry interpretation and monitoring
  • Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, accessing and managing ports, blood product administration, and central line blood draws
  • Experience starting and maintaining IVs
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE protocols
  • Tracheostomy care/management experience preferred
  • Chemotherapy administration experience preferred
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable for the second reference; no coworker references accepted

  • Cares for patients with true medical/surgical care needs alongside oncology treatment
  • Candidates should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous travel experience preferred but not required
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees eligible for a travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed urgently upon contract signing; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
