Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Tele RN for a night shift contract at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele experience and GA or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • 30-bed Med/Surg-Tele unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with chest pain and stroke center designations
  • Patient population includes heart failure, A-Fib, AKI/CKD, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes, plus post-op and post-cardiac procedure patients
  • RN staffing ratio of 1:4-6 with CNA and LPN support
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of every 12 on the 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in the hospital
  • Charts in EPIC, uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Utilizes central telemetry monitoring, glucommander, PCA pumps, bladder scanners, and portable vital sign monitors

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • BLS required; ACLS and Medical-Surgical certification preferred
  • Must pass a Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) EKG competency exam as part of compliance
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg-Tele RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core specialty experience within the last year
  • Skilled in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drip management, and HR titration drips
  • Experience with central line management, wound care, groin management, and foley care required
  • Strong cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive med-surg and telemetry nursing care including discharge planning and patient education on renal and fluid management
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist support
  • Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, and resource/discharge nurses who float to all units
  • One day of facility orientation with educational modules plus two days of departmental orientation
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • RTO requests require manager approval
  • Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius rule and same rate for local travelers
  • Candidates must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least one year following a permanent position before returning
