Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift position in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and GA or compact licensure.

Details

  • Admission Discharge Transition Unit within a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • 16-bed unit with an average census of 16 patients, decompressing the ER by housing patients awaiting inpatient admission
  • Common diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, abdominal pain, cellulitis, COPD exacerbation, heart failure, dehydration, hypertension, diabetes, POD#1 patients, and simple trauma/MVC/fall cases
  • RN patient ratio of 1:4-6, with LPN support at 1:4-6 and 1-2 CNAs per shift
  • 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), 36 hours/week on a 6-week schedule
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of every 12
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult med/surg and telemetry units
  • EPIC EMR used, along with Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Central telemetry monitoring supported by a dedicated telemetry unit

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or compact) required, associate's degree minimum
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) competency completed during onboarding
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin drip management (Glucommander), heparin drips, and HR-titrated drips
  • Strong clinical assessment, time management, and cardiac monitoring interpretation skills
  • Care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education experience needed
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for a high-turnover, fast-paced unit using admission/discharge protocols for rapid patient turnover
  • Supported by CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, resource/discharge nurses, RT, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
  • No dedicated IV team, though a PICC team is available; lab-collect phlebotomy performed by CVL-trained nurses
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • RTO requests subject to manager approval
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius rule for GA facilities, same rate applies
