Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Oncology unit requiring 2 years of large hospital nursing experience and an active ND or compact RN license.

Details

  • Med/Surg-Oncology unit (6S/7S) within a Level 1 trauma acute care hospital
  • 6S has 16 inpatient oncology beds; 7S has 12 beds focused on hematology/bone marrow transplant
  • Cares for medically complex hematology/oncology patients requiring blood products, antibiotics, and symptom/side effect management
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for chemotherapy/BMT patients and 1:4-5 for regular oncology patients (1:4-6 on nights)
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Philips Care Monitors, glucometers, bladder scanners, language line, and Zebra phones
  • 12-hour day/night rotating shifts with every other weekend and every other holiday
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg units at Broadway with potential floating to other Fargo Med Surg units
  • No on-call requirements and will not work alone

Requirements

  • Active RN license (ND or Compact) required or willing to obtain
  • Current BLS certification (AHA) required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience in a large hospital setting (250+ beds)
  • Experience in a busy Level 1 trauma center required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Travel experience highly preferred
  • Inpatient oncology experience preferred; hematology and bone marrow transplant experience a bonus
  • Must be willing to float to all Med/Surg units/locations within Fargo as needed

Additional Information

  • Perform head-to-toe assessments, administer medications, communicate with the interdisciplinary team, and update patients and families
  • May be assigned to administer chemotherapy if trained accordingly
  • Orientation includes 8 hours of classroom training followed by 24-36 hours of unit training
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • All clinicians must badge in and out at the facility
  • Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis (every other holiday)
  • Candidates living within 60 miles of the facility are not eligible for this position
  • Candidates living 60-80 miles from the facility are eligible at a reduced local travel rate
  • Previous Sanford Health employees must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
  • First-time travelers may be considered, though travel experience is highly preferred
