Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Labor & Delivery/Postpartum role at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of postpartum experience and fetal monitoring certification.

Details

  • Mother-Baby unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds
  • Cares for vaginal and C-section delivery patients, with occasional overflow hysterectomy cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:3-4 couplets, supported by 2-3 CNAs per shift
  • 12-hour day shift schedule, 7a-7p, 36 hours per week
  • Floats between Mother Baby, Antepartum, and L&D units, as well as all adult med surg/telemetry units
  • On-call requirement of one 12-hour shift every 6 weeks
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts on a 6-week schedule
  • EPIC EMR system used
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Unit equipped with cardiac telemetry monitoring, bladder scanners, PCA pumps, and Glucommander

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency required, including passing an EKG competency exam
  • Fetal monitoring certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of postpartum RN experience required
  • Strong clinical assessment and Mother Baby skills required for Level 1 Trauma setting
  • IV insertion and care, and central line management skills required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care for vaginal and C-section delivery patients, coordinating with interdisciplinary teams
  • Unit supported by CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, resource/discharge nurses, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • PICC team available, though unit is not a dedicated IV team
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Must work one day for each major holiday period (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's)
  • L&D surgical green scrubs required, with scrub exchange system provided
  • Free parking available on campus, with paid deck parking also an option
  • Team-oriented, fast-paced unit culture
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • No radius rule applies for local candidates, who receive the same pay rate as travelers
  • Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position there
