Description

American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery/Postpartum RN for a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of L&D experience and AWHONN-guided ratios.

Details

  • Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital setting with 637 licensed beds
  • Unit includes 9 labor beds, 3 ORs, 4 PACUs, 11 antepartum beds, 4 triage bays, and 27 postpartum beds
  • Census ranges from 2-14 in L&D
  • Cares for laboring, antepartum, and triage patients along with PACU/OR coverage
  • RN staffing follows AWHONN guidelines with 2-3 OB Surg Techs per shift
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, 36 hours/week on a 6-week schedule
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of every 12 on the 6-week cycle
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floats to all adult med surg/telemetry units in house as needed
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Utilizes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, cardiac telemetry, Dynamap portable vitals, PCA pumps, bladder scanners, Glucommander, and suction machines

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Fetal Monitoring certifications required
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency exam required as part of compliance
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D RN experience required
  • Strong clinical assessment and L&D skills suited for a Level 1 Trauma hospital
  • Experience with IV insertion, central line management, and interdisciplinary care coordination required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in labor, antepartum, triage, PACU, and OR areas
  • Coordinate with 24/7 RT, hospitalist, intensivist, and OB physician coverage
  • Support from unit-based CNAs performing vitals, glucose checks, hygiene, and mobility assistance
  • Unit secretary coverage 7a-11p, transitioning to house-wide call secretary overnight
  • Charge nurse may carry a patient assignment
  • 1-day facility orientation with educational modules plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for one shift each during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's periods
  • RTO requests subject to manager approval
  • Navy scrubs required for RN staff; surgical green with scrub exchange system for L&D surgical roles
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented unit culture with rapid patient turnover using admission/discharge protocols
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Travelers are needed to bridge staffing gaps while newly hired staff complete orientation
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least one year following a permanent position
  • No radius rule applies for GA facilities, with the same rate offered to local travelers
