Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 12-hour night shift assignment, requiring at least one prior travel contract and a SD or compact RN license.

Details

  • 39-bed mixed ICU (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) divided into pods; no floating to CVICU side without prior experience
  • Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and heavy trauma cases
  • Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post cardiac cath, and multiple system trauma
  • Cardiac experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR patients 24-48 hrs post-op
  • RN to patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and occasionally 1:3 based on acuity
  • 12-hour night shift schedule totaling 48 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation targeted for every other weekend, though not guaranteed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating uncommon, reserved for overstaffed situations; could float to any adult floor including Medsurg/Tele with 1:4 ratio
  • ICU RNs may float to ED and PCU RNs may float into ICU depending on experience
  • Support staff includes 1-2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, charge nurses overseeing all ICUs, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and onsite intensivists/APPs
  • Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy; ICU RNs place all midlines
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris (transitioning to Baxter) pumps, and Omnicell

Requirements

  • Active RN license (SD or compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required
  • TNCC certification required, or willingness to obtain prior to arrival
  • Minimum 2 years ICU experience preferred, excluding travel experience
  • Candidates with 1.5 years ICU experience and significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered pending management approval
  • At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers not accepted
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics required
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required
  • Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and comfort in a fast-paced, high-acuity team environment required
  • Must be comfortable working a 48-hour per week contract

Additional Information

  • Provide direct critical care to complex ICU patients across multiple specialties
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Facility orientation includes hospital orientation, department orientation with iLearns, and floor orientation shifts
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking available
  • No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
  • Time off requests up to 7 days may be approved, but contract must be extended to complete a full 13-week assignment
  • Travelers must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility; local candidates not accepted
  • Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Facility is known for being traveler-friendly with high renewal rates
