Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Level III NICU position requiring at least 1.5 years of NICU experience and an active SD or compact RN license.

Details

  • Level III NICU in a Level II Trauma Center, Level II Pediatric Trauma, and Magnet-designated teaching hospital
  • 28-bed unit with average census of 13-16 patients
  • Cares for neonates of all gestational ages, including low birth weight, high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide, total body cooling, and feeders/growers
  • No ECMO or cardiac surgery cases at this facility
  • RN to patient ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:4
  • 12-hour variable shifts, will consider 36 or 48 hour contracts, 48 hours per week
  • No set weekend rotation but traveler may work mostly weekends
  • On-call required only if placed on call for low census
  • Floating required to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, or Adult (constant observation only, peds overflow)
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing system

Requirements

  • Active RN license (SD or compact) required
  • Minimum 1.5 years of NICU experience required
  • BLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required; STABLE certification preferred
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
  • Skills in ventilator management, IV starts, chest tubes, and IV medication titration required
  • Experience with neonatal resuscitation preferred
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred; notify facility if unfamiliar for approval

Additional Information

  • Unit supported by CNAs (1:10 ratio), charge nurse (1:25, attends deliveries), RT, 24/7 neonatologist and NNP coverage, transport team, and lactation consultants
  • No dedicated IV/VAT team; phlebotomy performed by RNs
  • Infants requiring surgery are transferred out due to no dedicated pediatric surgical team
  • Orientation includes general traveler orientation plus one day and one night on the unit
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 of 4 major holidays
  • Time off requires pre-approval from management
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking available
  • First-time travelers considered only with 2+ years of experience
  • Travelers must reside more than 100 miles from the facility
  • Former permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
