Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a 48-hour weekly contract requiring at least one prior travel assignment and 2 years of ICU experience.

Details

  • Work in a 39-bed mixed ICU (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) divided into pods
  • Care for complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases with a heavy trauma population
  • Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post cardiac cath, and multiple system trauma
  • Cardiac experience preferred, including 24-48 hr post-op CABG/TAVR care
  • Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and rarely 1:3 depending on acuity
  • 12-hour day shifts totaling 48 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation attempted for every other weekend but not guaranteed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating uncommon but possible to any adult floor including Medsurg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio if overstaffed
  • ICU RNs may float to ED and PCU RNs may float to ICU depending on experience
  • Epic used for charting, required for both ED and ICU
  • Alaris pumps in use, transitioning to Baxter pumps in October
  • Omnicell system used for medication management

Requirements

  • Active SD or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • TNCC certification required, must be obtained prior to arrival if not already held
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel experience (1.5 years may be considered with manager approval if significant non-ICU RN experience exists)
  • At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers not accepted
  • Completion of an approved nursing education program
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics required
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment, and teamwork skills required
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
  • Must be comfortable working a 48-hour/week contract

Additional Information

  • Support staff includes 1-2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, and 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage
  • Physician coverage includes 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP on nights
  • Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy; ICU RNs place all midlines
  • Resource nurse support available depending on staffing needs
  • Orientation includes hospital orientation, department orientation, iLearns, and floor shadow shifts
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking provided
  • No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
  • Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved but must not shorten the required 13-week contract
  • Travelers must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
  • Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Facility is known for being very traveler-friendly and frequently renews travel contracts
