Oncology PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Oncology PCU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The nurse will provide high-quality care to patients in an adult oncology and trauma patient care unit (PCU). Our ideal candidate is someone who demonstrates a positive attitude, embraces teamwork, and genuinely cares for patients.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
• Primary Patient Population: Adult Oncology and Trauma PCU patients
• Number of Beds: 18

Shifts

• 12-hour shifts
• Days: 0630a–7:00p
• Nights: 0630p–7:00a
• Every other weekend required
• Self-scheduling with unit needs in mind

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• First-time travelers accepted
• Strong PCU experience preferred; oncology experience is a plus

Certifications

• BLS – Required
• ACLS – Required
• ONS/ONCC certification – Preferred

Patient Ratios

Staffing ratios will be:

• Days: 1:4-1:5
• Nights: 1:4-1:5

Orientation

New hires will complete a two-day unit orientation to ensure a smooth transition into the role.

Skills and Drip Management

RNs on the unit may occasionally titrate the following drips:

• Insulin
• Cardizem
• Chemotherapy
• Heparin
• Protonix

RNs should also be comfortable managing additional titratable drips as needed.

Respiratory Equipment

Common respiratory equipment encountered on this unit includes:

• High-flow oxygen
• BiPAP
• Ventilators

Technology and Support Staff

• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Epic
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Support Staff: Available nursing assistants, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case managers, social workers, educator, and dietitian
