Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- CPI/MOAB (Crisis Prevention Institute/Management of Aggressive Behavior)
Skills Required
- General Emergency Department experience
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- IV skills
- Knowledge of med administration and ED drips
- Procedural sedation
- Blood product administration
- TNK administration experience preferred
- Recent EPIC experience required
Support on the Unit
- Emergency Technicians for basic assistance
- Charge Nurse: Rarely takes patient assignments
- Resource/Float Nurse support
- Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
- ED Educator on-site
- Increased security assigned to the Emergency Department at all times
- House Supervisor available 24/7
- Social Work Services present in the Emergency Department 24/7
- Pharmacy support available 24/7
Charting System/Equipment
- EPIC Electronic Health Record
- Alaris infusion system
- Pyxis medication dispensing
- Central and bedside telemetry monitoring
Floating
No floating among units.
Orientation
- 1st day: New Employee Orientation, EPIC training (if needed), and hours in mental health area
- 2nd day: 12-hour shift with preceptor on assigned shift
- Traveler Telemetry Competency required to be completed and passed prior to start
Scheduling
- 48-hour contract availability
- Weeklong shifts with variability based on staffing needs
- Schedule provided 3 weeks in advance
- Time off requests approved by Nurse Manager
- Holiday requirements include working 2 of 5 major holidays
