- Average of 200 patients per day
Patient Population
- Wide range of patient types from pediatrics to geriatrics, including:
- Trauma
- Gunshot Wounds
- Sepsis
- COVID-19
- STEMI
- Stroke
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Mental health issues
- Respiratory issues
- Geriatric care, particularly falls and STEMI cases
- Adult Psych cases
- High acuity medical cases
Patient Ratios
- Day shift: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients (may flex based on acuity and staffing)
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- CPI/MOAB (Crisis Prevention and Intervention/Management of Aggressive Behavior)
Required Skills
- General Emergency Department experience, including:
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- IV insertion and management
- Administration of drips and medications
- Procedural sedation
- Blood administration
- Administration of TNK (Tissue Plasminogen Activator), preferred
- Cardiac medication management
- Recent experience with the EPIC charting system is required
Unit Support
- ER Technicians for glucose checks, iStat, and assisting with splinting
- Charge Nurse (rarely takes patient assignments)
- Resource/Float Nurse available
- Respiratory Therapists available 24/7
- ED Educator on staff
- Increased security presence 24/7
- Social Work Services available 24/7
- Pharmacy support available 24/7 for sedation medication management and code assistance
Charting System and Equipment
- EPIC charting system experience required
- Alaris IV pumps
- Pyxis medication management system
- Central and bedside telemetry monitoring
Orientation Process
- Day 1: New Employee Orientation, EPIC training if necessary, time spent in mental health area
- Day 2: 12-hour shift with a preceptor (assigned shift)
- Traveler Telemetry Competency required prior to starting, to be graded by SimpliFi Compliance
Scheduling
- Shifts:
- Days/Mids: 0700, 1100
- Mids/Nights: 1500, 1900
- Weekly schedules will be provided 3 weeks in advance
- Weekend shifts will vary based on the needs of the unit
- Time off requests approved by Nurse Manager
